SDSC HPC/Cyberinfrastructure Training Program

Welcome to the SDSC HPC & Cyberinfrastructure Training Program

The San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) has a long history of educating and training users across all levels—from K-12 to undergraduates, graduates, post-docs, faculty, staff, and the general workforce. Our High-Performance Computing (HPC) and Cyberinfrastructure (CI) Training Program (HPC/CI) trains the next generation of the NSF workforce community. We teach the use of advanced HPC and CI resources, tools, and methods through webinars, tutorials, institutes, training programs, hackathons, and bootcamps.

Communities We Serve

  • SDSC End-Users: Researchers utilizing Expanse, Voyager, and the Triton Shared Computing Cluster (TSCC).
  • Summer Institute Participants: Attendees of the HPC-DSI (HPC and Data Science) and CIML (Cyberinfrastructure-enabled Machine Learning) institutes.
  • UC San Diego Community: Campus researchers, staff, and students.
  • External Communities: Broad audiences interested in learning more about HPC and CI.
  • NSF CyberTraining: Facilitating and supporting multiple NSF CyberTraining grants (2230127, 2017767, 2320934, 2320977).

Training Topics Covered

We design our curriculum to meet the community's specific needs, balancing fundamental knowledge with emerging technologies:

  • Basic Skills: Linux essentials and secure shell (SSH) cluster access.
  • Emerging Tech: Jupyter notebooks and advanced cyberinfrastructure.
  • Core Concepts: High-performance computing, data management, and reproducible computing.
  • Applications: Scientific computing, including Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning.
